July 2

Afternoon & Evening Show

Sonny Green, Tia Carroll and the Greaseland All-Stars are a project of the non-profit, award-winning roots label, Little Village Foundation. The performance is presented by The Leslie Foundation.

Sonny Green’s gospel-drenched, soul-stirring vocals will be the star of the show. Sonny’s been singing since his teens in Louisiana and performing regularly for over 40 years to devoted Los Angeles area crowds. Like any great artist, Sonny has a style and voice all his own, but you can definitely hear his influences in his repertoire, including Bobby “Blue” Bland, Little Milton, Syl  Johnson, and Ted Taylor. He released his first debut full-length album, Found! One Soul Singer with Little Village Foundation last year.

The Little Village Foundation is excited to introduce you to the amazing vocals of Bay Area blues singer supreme, Tia Carroll. Tia has been performing steadily with her own band for decades in California and made some successful recordings before (rock, gospel, and blues with bands in Italy and Brazil) Tia’s emotive vocals truly mesh well together with the Blues Music Award-nominated piano/organ playing of Little Village’s Jim Pugh and the jaw-dropping, yet tasteful guitar of Kid Andersen. She recorded her first stateside studio album You Gotta Have It! with Little Village Foundation, which features strong original blues and soul, and interesting well-chosen covers.

Backing these fabulous vocalists, The Greaseland All-stars corals a cadre of veteran northern California sidemen, led by producer/guitarist Kid Anderson (Charlie Musselwhite, Rick Estrin & the Nightcats, Elvin Bishop). Joining the melee is keyboardist and Little Village Foundation label founder/director Jim Pugh (Robert Cray, Etta James, Elvin Bishop, Boz Scags, Chris Isaak). Bassist Steve Ehrmann (Charlie Musselwhite, John Lee Hooker, Roy Rogers) and drummer Derrick “D’Marr” Martin (Little Richard, Bobby Rush, Billy Preston, Carla Thomas) round out the rhythm section. The stripped-down horn section includes Grammy Award-winning baritone saxophonist/educator, Aaron Joseph Lington (Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Bo Diddley, Count Basie Orchestra) and Grammy-winning trombonist/arranger Mike Rinta (Jimmy Vaughan, Howard Tate, Sly & the Family Stone, Herbie Hancock, Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, Santana).
